Why CE Certification Matters for Protective Equipment
For goalkeeper equipment, everything revolves around safety. That’s why all hockey goalkeeper protection must comply with European CE standards. This means every product is independently tested and certified for impact protection, ergonomics, material safety, and on‑field use.
Important to Know
- Goalkeeper equipment falls under TYPE 2 personal protective equipment.
- The CE logo alone is not enough. The product must also include the reference EU 2016/425.
- Every certified product has a permanent marking, a manual, and a Declaration of Conformity (DoC) from the manufacturer.
- If any of these elements are missing, the product is likely not certified.

What Does This Mean for You as a Goalkeeper?
For you as a goalkeeper, CE certification means better protection, reduced risk, and equipment that truly performs as intended.
Responsibility of the Club
- The club has a duty of care to provide safe, CE‑certified equipment.
- Damaged, outdated, or uncertified equipment may not be used.
- The club must inspect equipment regularly and replace it on time.
- If an injury occurs due to faulty equipment, the club may be held liable.
- Goalkeepers and parents must be informed about safe use and the obligation to report damage.
And for Resellers?
For resellers, this means responsibility and a legal duty of care. Selling uncertified equipment that leads to injury can result in liability.
